Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises that on April 1, 2021, amended inshore regulations - the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985 and the Maritimes Provinces Fishery Regulations, will come into effect.
The amended inshore regulations apply to inshore commercial licences across Atlantic Canada and Quebec, except:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – In December 2019, Fisheries and Oceans Canada communicated the mandatory gear marking requirements for all non-tended fixed gear fisheries, as well as crab trap and lobster trap fisheries, in Eastern Canada starting in 2020. The Gulf, Maritimes, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Quebec Regions are hereby offering the following guidelines for fish harvesters to appropriately implement the gear marking requirements.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – The Department wishes to inform the fishing industry
that the colour scheme for gear marking of ropes has been updated to include a “Scientific licences”
category, as well as to address specific matters in the toad crab fishery for fishing area 24 (Gulf
Region) and in the snow crab fishery for management areas 2J North and 2J South (Newfoundland
& Labrador Region).

The purpose of this notice is to inform you of regulatory measures concerning fishing and navigation activities in the Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area. This is the federal portion of the joint marine protected area project created under the Canada-Quebec Collaborative Agreement for the Establishment of a Network of Marine Protected Areas in Quebec.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – Magdalen Islands Area informs groundfish licence holders from the Magdalen Islands fixed gear fleet under 19.81 m that permanent quota transfers are now authorized in Atlantic Halibut. The fishery management regime becomes Individual Transferable Quota (ITQ).

The fixed gear marking requirements, announced by Fisheries and Oceans Canada in December 2019, have been updated and detailed in a Notice to Fish Harvesters issued on January 31, 2020.
