Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the following modification to the management measures on the shape and size of traps, effective from the 2024 fishing season:

  • The maximum dimensions will be 82 cm in length, 61 cm in width and 50 cm in height, regardless of the shape of the trap used.

 

4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT GASPÉ FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 METRES LOBSTER FISHERS GROUP _NOTICE TO FISHERS JANUARY 2024 (VMS)

Québec/Gaspe- Lower North Shore area:  January 24, 2024

Contrary to the Notice to Fish Harvesters issued on July 12, 2023, for the Gaspé fixed gear fleet less than 13.71 m (Lobster Group), the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) will be mandatory for the directed Atlantic halibut fishery as of the 2025-26 fishing season, not the 2024-25 fishing season.

 

GREY AND HARP SEALS – QUEBEC REGION- SEASONS 2024-2025 CONSERVATION HARVESTING AREA (CHP) SUMMARY

Application and Fishing Area

This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the Quebec region sealing fleets and covers the grey and harp seals 2024 and 2025 seasons. Subject to any Variation Order and based on valid licences, the commercial fleet is authorized to fish (hunt) in some Gulf of St. Lawrence sealing areas. Personal use fishing (hunting) activities for eligible hunters in the Quebec region are authorized in sealing areas 13 to 20, access to which is determined according to the hunters residential areas.

Lobster sub-area 18G – North Shore season 2023 - Notice to Fish Harvesters

Subject : Extension of the lobster fishing season in Sub-area 18G

Sept-Îles – July 14, 2023

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the postponement of the closure lobster fishing season in Sub-area 18G. The closure is now set on Saturday, August 5, 2023 following the request of the fleet representatives. The mandatory evacuation of part of the population of Sept-Iles caused by forest fires prevented lobster fishing activities in this sub-area for a period of one week.
