Notice to Fish Harvesters - SEA URCHIN – EXPLORATORY FISHING AREA 8 - LOWER ST. LAWRENCE AREA SEASONS 2022-2025

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Quebec Region announces the opening of the exploratory sea urchin dive fishery in Area 8 as of August 1, 2022.

Fishers are asked to note the implementation of a total allowable catch (TAC) for sub-area 8D, effective for the 2022 season.

The TACs, for sub-areas 8D and 8E, applicable between January 1 and December 31 of each year, are as follows

  • Sub-area 8D: 126 t
  • Sub-area 8E: 110.7 t, including a maximum catch limit of 85 t within sub-area 8E1. Catches taken in sub-area 8E-1 are deducted from the TAC of sub-area 8E.

The Department is also announcing that the Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) that has been mandatory since 2018 on a pilot basis is becoming a permanent management measure and that the costs related to this measure will now have to be borne by the license holders.

The remaining management measures are available in the 2022-2025 Conservation Harvesting Plan approved on July 26, 2022.
