CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN- GREY AND HARP SEALS – QUEBEC SEASONS 2026-2027 REGION

1. Application

This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the Quebec region sealing fleets and covers the grey and harp seals for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

For the purposes of this document, the term ʺseal huntʺ or other related terms are used to refer to the term ʺseal fisheryʺ used in the Marine Mammal Regulations.

LOBSTER – AREA 22 – MAGDALEN ISLANDS FLEET VESSEL MONITORING SYSTEM

Magdalen Islands – November 28th, 2025

 

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces that the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) will be mandatory in the directed lobster fishery in Area 22 for the Magdalen Islands fleet starting with the 2027 fishing season.

 

Vessels must be equipped with an active VMS approved by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Each licence holder must register their VMS with DFO before starting fishing activities. Data must be transmitted every 5 minutes.

 

Closure of herring fishery in NAFO Subdivision 4Sw

Sept-Îles – October 20, 2025

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces that the herring fishery in NAFO Subdivision 4Sw will be closed by Variation Order effective October 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) for the 2025 season, due to the reaching of the quota for this area. Subdivision 4Sw affected by the closure is bounded by the coast and the points at the following coordinates, in the order listed:

Area 2:            From Pointe-des-Monts to Pointe Jambon

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Quebec Region is announcing the closure of the whelk fishery for the Upper and Middle North Shore fleet, zone 5, from August 27, 2025 at 23h59,  due to the reach of the total allowable catch.
