Snow crab 14 season 2024 - Notice to Fish Harvesters

SUBJECT :   Announcement of the opening of the Area 14 snow crab fishery

Sept-Îles – April 11, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the snow crab fishing season in area 14. The opening is scheduled for Monday, April 22th, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. (EDT) for the first period.

As recommended by the fleet representatives, two periods of fishing activity is in effect in Area 14 for the 2024 season. Licence holders are offered the opportunity to choose among the 2 following options:

Option 1 :

Subject:     Spring opening date for the Atlantic halibut fishery by the Upper and Middle North Shore fleet

Sept-Îles – April 12th, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Quebec Region announces the Spring opening date for the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST by the Upper and Middle North Shore (UMNS) fixed gear fleet of less than 19.81 m under the Individual Transferable Quotas (ITQ) regime in 2023-2024. The opening date is scheduled in April 17, 2024 at 5 a.m. (EDT).

NOTICE OF INTEREST EXPLORATORY LOBSTER LICENCES SUBAREAS 18A TO 18H

  • Sept-Iles – April 11, 2024

    Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is implementing a plan for the knowledge acquisition and development of the lobster fishery in fishing area 18. This plan will include the issuance of exploratory lobster licences for the 2024 season. DFO invites interested licence holders to submit an application for an exploratory licence for lobster in fishing subareas 18A to 18H by April 21, 2024.

Application and Fishing Areas

This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the fleets of snow crab licence holders in Areas 12A, 12C, 14, 15, 16, 16A and 17.

Fishing season

The specific periods of the 2024 snow crab fishing season for each of the Snow Crab Fishing Areas (CFAs) will be confirmed by Notice to Fishermen or Variation Orders. The duration of the fishing season is 10 weeks (CFA 12A), 13 weeks (CFA 17) and 14 weeks (CFA 12C, 14, 15, 16, and 16A).

Opening of the Snow crab fishery in area 16A

Sept-Îles – March 28, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the snow crab fishing season in area 16A. The opening is scheduled for Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. (EDT) for the first period.

As recommended by the fleet representatives, two periods of fishing activity is in effect in Area 16A for the 2024 season. Licence holders are offered the opportunity to choose among the 2 following options:

Option 1 :

From April 5th, 2024 at 05:00 a.m. (EDT) to July 11th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT);

Opening of the Snow crab fishery in area 16

Sept-Îles – March 29, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the snow crab fishing season in area 16. The opening is scheduled for Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. (EDT) as recommended by the fleet representatives. Postponement of the opening date will not be allowed.  The fishery will close on Thusdayy, July 11th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).

Opening of the snow crab fishery, Area 12F for the 2024 season

Québec and Moncton – March 30, 2024

 

Fisheries and Oceans Canada announces the opening date of the snow crab fishery in Snow Crab Fishing Area 12F.

The fishery will open at 6:00 Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT) on April 1, 2024.

The fishery will close on June 30, 2024 at 23:59 hrs (ADT). All gear must be removed from the water by the end of the day June 30th, but landing of traps and crabs can occur, if required, on July 1st.
