Changes in the whelk fishery management measures_ Notice to fish harvesters

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region informs whelk licence holders in Areas 11, 12, 13 and 14 of the Quebec Region of changes to whelk fishery management measures that will be in effect as of April 1, 2023.

Licence holders must contact Fisheries and Oceans Canada by e-mail at: XLAUMPO-Gaspe-260@dfo-mpo.gc.ca before 7:00 p.m. the day prior to the departure of each trip.
Minimal whelk size
The minimal size of whelk will be 80 mm for Areas 11, 12 and 14. For Area 13, the size remains at 75 mm for 2023 and will be increased to 80 mm in 2024 based on sampling to be conducted during the 2023 season.

Quotas available to the fishery for the 2023 to 2025 seasons are as follows:
