The Capelin Observers Network (CON)

To improve knowledge about capelin spawning, Fisheries and Oceans Canada in cooperation with various partners (ZIP committees and coastal committees) set up a capelin observers’ network in 2003. This network invites the public to report their observations so that capelin spawning sites along the shores of the estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence can be better documented.

If you’ve seen capelin spawning or have noticed signs of its presence (for example, large numbers of seabirds gathered in a specific area, beached capelin, etc.), call this toll-free number 1-877-Ça roule (227-6853) to leave your contact information and report your observations (place and date of spawning, how many capelin were coming into shore, etc.).
