Minister Tootoo’s visit to Quebec
On January 20, on their first official visit to Quebec, the Honorable Hunter Tootoo, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and his Parliamentary Secretary, Serge Cormier, held a series of roundtables with the main stakeholders of the fishing industry, as well as with Aboriginal representatives and various marine industry clients and partners.
These meetings gave participants an opportunity to get to know each other, and paved the way for future discussions.
Meeting of the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers
The members of the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers (CCFAM) met in Montréal on January 21, 2016 to discuss priorities, particularly marine protected areas, the Fisheries Act, market access for Canadian fish and seafood, and sustainable aquaculture development.
The meeting was co-chaired by Minister Tootoo and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Attendees included ministers responsible for fisheries from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Nunavut, along with government representatives from Alberta, Manitoba, Yukon and Quebec.
Minister Tootoo’s visit to Montréal also gave him the opportunity to meet with Germain Chevarie, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for Quebec.
