OBJECT : UPDATE OF THE VESSEL REPLACEMENT RULES
Québec – January 14, 2026
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the update of the vessel
replacement rules for the cod and Atlantic halibut ITQ program for less than 13,71 metres
(45 feet) fixed gear groundfish licences that are part of the Lower North Shore fleet.
Concerned licence holders may now use vessels with a maximum overall length of 19.81
metres (64 feet 11 inches) for cod and Atlantic halibut fisheries.
These new rules are effective immediately.
We remind you that when purchasing a vessel, it is the responsibility of fish harvesters to
verify with the appropriate authorities (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Transport Canada,
Harbour Authorities, etc.) that there will be space available to accommodate it.
