ROCK CRAB- AREAS 12 AND 17- Gaspe Lower St. Lawrence area SEASON 2025
SUBJECT: Opening of the rock crab fishery in areas 12 and 17
Gaspé – July 30, 2025
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the 2025 rock crab fishery in the Gaspé peninsula sub-areas 12D1 to 12D7, 12F to 12Z and 17 from october 2, 2025 to september 26, 2025 . Please note that the season will open at 4:30 a.m. (EDT).
Other management measures are described in the Conservation Harvesting Plan approved on July 23, 2024. In the event that the indicators continue to show worrying signs, the ministry may quickly implement other measures during to ensure the conservation of stocks.
Quotas
Quota allotted in the CHP are subject to reconciliation. The quantities allocated for the 2023 season are:
- 17 C and 12 D1 to 12D3 : 75 tons ;
- 12D4 to 12D7 : 148,5 tons ;
- 12E to 12O : 81,5 tons ;
- 12Q, 12W à 12X : 77,5 tons ;
- 12Y : 61,5 tons ;
- 12Z : 101,5 tons.
Furthermore, it should be noted that during the period during which fishing is authorized, it is the captain's responsibility to read the notices issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada and Transport Canada related to marine safety, as well as safety standards and good practices, and take all the necessary steps to ensure safe fishing.
