SUBJECT: Announcement of management measures for the Atlantic halibut fishery and allocations for 2025-2026

Gaspé – June 12, 2025

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region informs Atlantic halibut fishermen from the Gaspé fixed gear of under 13.71 m (Turbot group, AMTG group and Others group) of fishery management measures for 2025-2026.
Management measures, including those announced in the May 13, 2025 Notice to Fish Harvesters regarding boat rental and changes to closure areas, are outlined in the 2025-2026 Conservation Harvesting Plan approved on May 13, 2025.
The initial allocation of Atlantic halibut for all Gaspé fleets is set at 1001.604 t for the 2025-2026 season. In accordance with the permanent sharing agreement between the 13.71 m and over and under 13.71 m Gaspé fleets, which is set at 63.5% : 36.5% respectively, the allocation for the under 13.71 m Gaspé fleet corresponds to 365.585 t.
Based on the permanent sharing of the under 13.71 m fleet allocation, the share allocated to licence holders belonging to the Turbot group corresponds to 47.75% of this allocation, or 174.567 t, the share allocated to the AMTG group corresponds to 9.75% of this allocation, or 35.645 t, while the share allocated to the Others group corresponds to 14.75% of this allocation, or 53.924 t.
Furthermore, it should be noted that during the period during which fishing is authorized, it is the captain's responsibility to read the notices issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada and Transport Canada related to marine safety, as well as safety standards and good practices, and take all the necessary steps to ensure safe fishing.
