PINKEWYCZ, N., F.J. FIFE, S.I.C. HSIAO, 1987. Phytoplankton, temperature and salinity data from northeastern Ungava Bay. Can. Data Rep. Fish. Aquat. Sci., 644, 67 p .
Phytoplankton data from collections during late summer and early fall of 1984 and 1985 in northeastern Ungava Bay are tabulated. Fifty-four genera and 102 species were identified. The diatoms were the largest group in terms of the number of cells and species. Among them, centric diatoms had fewer species but a greater abundance of cells than the pennate diatoms. Chlorophytes, chrysophytes, blue-green algae, euglenoids and dinoflagellates occurred in lower numbers in terms of both cells and species. Seawater temperature ranged from 0.2 °C in deeper water ot 3.2 °C near the surface, with most values lying between 1.5 °C and 2.0 °C. Salinity remained consistently between 30 ppt and 32 ppt except at Station 7.
HSIAO, S.I.C., N. PINKEWYCZ, 1987. Phytoplankton data from western Baffin Bay and adjacent waters. Can. Data Rep. Fish. Aquat. Sci., 674, 55 p .
Phytoplankton samples were collected from 23 stations at depths of 1, 5, 20, 50, 100 and 200 m in eastern Jones Sound, eastern Lancaster Sound and western Baffin Bay during the summer and fall of 1979. These samples were quantitatively analyzed for species composition and abundance. In terms of numbers of species and cells, the diatoms comprised the largest group; green algae, chrysophytes, euglenoids and dinoflagellates occurred in lower numbers.
