This report presents physical and biological oceanograpahic data of the eastern and northern parts of Hudson Basin that were obtained during a sampling mission of 84 stations conducted between 22 August and l5 September l993. A summary table identifies variables measured at each station. The vertical profiles of temperature, salinity, in situ fluorescence, chlorophyll a, particulate organic carbon and nitrogen, and nutrients are presented as well as phytoplankton and zooplankton counts and zooplankton biomass determination. Photosynthetic parameters calculated from P-l curves and estimates of total primary production at the surface are also provided. (DBO).

This data report presents a compilation of all oceanographic and biological data collected during the summers of 1987 and 1988 in eastern Hudson Strait, particularly in the vicinity of Resolution Island, located at the entrance of the Strait. The data include vertical profiles of temperature, salinity and density as well as T-S diagrams for each of the stations. Oblique tows with a 1 m bongo net at 49 stations in various parts of the eastern Strait during late August 1987 provided information on the biomass of the principal macrozooplankton groups and on the comparative, abundance, distribution and sizes of the three Themisto species occurring in the region. During late August 1988, 13 BIONESS tows from near bottom to surface at intervals at a station located just southwest of Resolution Island provided information on the distribution of the various species of pelagic amphipods in the water column and on their diel vertical migrations

This report presents a tabulation of all oceanographic and biological data collected during the summers of 1989 and 1990 in two fjords, Sugluk Inlet and Wakeham Bay, located on the Quebec coast in western Hudson Strait. The data set includes information on the vertical distribution of temperature, salinity, nutrients (PO4, NO3), and oxygen as well as total, particulate and dissolved organic carbon, bacterial and phytoplankton counts, chlorophyll a, and the composition and abundance of the phytoplankton and zooplankton communities. In Sugluk Inlet the vertical distribution of temperature, salinity and zooplankton in the vicinity of the fjord sill was examined at intervals during a tidal cycle. The water flow across the sill of Sugluk Inlet was measured during a two week period by means of a moored current meter. (DBO).

Tabulations are provided of the diets of 12 species of demersal marine fish from various locations in the Canadian Arctic, comprising a grand total of 267 prey species, mainly invertebrates. The total number of prey species taken by a single fish species ranged from 9 to 91, and the mean number per stomach from 2.0 to 9.4. The most important prey were Crustacea, most frequently epibenthic or planktonic species; Polychaeta, mainly the larger species; and Mollusca, notably the cropped siphons of Macoma calcarea. Generally, only a few species comprised the bulk of the food. Most of the fish had a predominantly benthic or epibenthic diet, a notable exception being Triglops pingeli which ate zooplankton almost exclusively at the three sites from which it was collected. To a lesser extent, Triglops murrayi, Icelus spatula and Liparis gibbus also fed planktonically.

This report presents the results of a workshop on the marine ecosystem of Hudson Strait sponsored by the Quebec region of DFO. The objectives of this workshop were to review the information presently available about the structure and functioning of the Hudson Strait marine ecosystem, pinpoint signigicant gaps in our knowledge and identify promising directions for future research. The report contains comprehensive reviews of the environment and biota of the region as well as the abstracts of papers dealing with specific research topics that were presented at the workshop. Also included are the summary reports of several working groups that pinpoint existing data gaps and identify potential threats to northern Quebec marine ecosystems that need to be evaluated and monitored. An extensive list of marine studies that could feasibly be conducted in the Hudson Strait region is presented. The recommendations of the Steering Committee regarding the further development of a program of Marine Ecosystem Studies in Hudson Strait are also included.

This report serves as a repository for tabular data pertaining to the seasonal changes in abundance and size frequency distribution of four macrozooplankton species present in Upper Frobisher Bay, N.W.T. Data are presented for the ctenophore Mertensia ovum, the hyperiid amphipod Parathemisto libellula, the Chaetognath Sagitta elegans and the pteropod Clione limacina. "Passive samplers" strained the strong tidal currents at 2 stations in Upper Frobisher Bay during 64 samples periods in the winter, spring and summer months of 1981 to 1985.
